First Lady Monica Phenix & Pastor David Phenix
Faith is more than what happens on Sunday mornings. It is a part of who we are, inside and out. At The HOP, we believe in sharing the joy of the Lord daily, and living a life that embodies the spirit of Christ.
Pastor David Phenix's BIO
Elder David G. Phenix was born in Lubbock Texas. His parents, Pastor Percy B. Phenix, Sr. and First Lady Willie Mae Phenix raised him to be a God fearing child. He is the oldest of three children.
Pastor David was called to the ministry at the tender age of eight (8) years old. Under the guidance of his childhood Pastor, Bishop W. D. Haynes, he “waited on his ministry” and began preaching at the age of 18 years old. He delivered his 1st message in August 15, 1982 at the First COGIC of Slaton. He received his minister’s license in the Texas Northwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under the late Bishop J.E. Alexander. He was ordained as an Elder in 1989 by Bishop W.H. Watson II. He has been in the ministry for 36 years.
He was appointed pastor of the Mineral Wells COGIC (later to be named the House of Praise COGIC) in Dec.1990. In January 2012, he proudly received the last Pastoral appointment from the late Bishop W. H. Watson II and was installed as Pastor by the newly appointed leader of TNW, Bishop William H. Watson III. He has been the Shepherd over the First COGIC of Slaton since the death of his father, Pastor Percy. B. Phenix, Sr.
Pastor David attended Texas Tech University and later ITT Technical Institute and received a degree in Electronic Engineering of Applied Science in 1990. He is married
to District Missionary Monica C. Phenix and they have three children, Demodric Cooks, DeShawn Phenix and Tameara Phenix.
Pastor David Phenix has served the Church of God in Christ in several capacities. He has served as District Chairman, and District Evangelist President under the late Supt. G.W. Pope in the Progressive District. He has also served as the District Evangelist President of the New Birth District under the leadership of Supt. R. L. Sample.
He currently serves at the District AIMS Chairman in the Abundant Life Fellowship District under the leadership of Supt. Timothy Johnson. He is also serving as the State Evangelist President both in Texas North Central Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under the Leadership of Bishop Robert L. Sample.
The sentiments of his heart come from the scripture I Corinthians 9:16. It states “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel”!
